The United States Virgin Islands is once again open for tourism. 

The territory began welcoming back visitors last week, with hotels across the island open and operating, following a one-month “pause” in tourism to curtail the spread of COVID-19.

That includes properties like the Ritz-Carlton, St Thomas; the Secret Harbour Beach Resort in St Thomas and St Croix’s legendary Buccaneer resort, among others. 

Another of the US Virgin Islands’ most popular resorts, the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort in St Thomas, is currently taking reservations for stays beginning Oct. 1, according to the property’s Web site.

The British Virgin Islands is officially reopening for international tourism in December, Caribbean Journal has learned. 

The beloved Caribbean archipelago will reopen to visitors on Dec. 1, according to British Virgin Islands Premier Andrew A. Fahie. 

“The Territory has two full months to prepare and we as a people must get it right and we must get it done by all working together, both the Government and  private sector,” Fahie said. 

Fahie said the BVI’s government intended to reopen the BVI in the “safest way possible, using science and technology as a guide.”

After a little over a month of closure, the United States Virgin Islands is reopening for tourism once again, Caribbean Journal has confirmed. 

US Virgin Islands Tourism Commissioner Joseph Boschulte confirmed to Caribbean Journal that the destination would be reopening for leisure tourism on Sept. 19. 

The US Virgin Islands’ USVI Update website said hotel and accommodations providers, including charter vessels, can now already take new leisure travel reservations.

Jamaica Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has “cautious optimism” for what a potential “major upturn” in visitor arrivals this upcoming winter tourist season, he said this week. 

At the end of February 2020, Jamaica had reported a 5.5 percent increase in visitor arrivals compared to the same period in 2019, or about 1.25 million visitors.
