Jamaica leads the Caribbean in Renewable Energy

Jamaica is now developing its renewable-energy potential at a leading pace among its Caribbean neighbours with support from private investment, says David Delaire, managing director, Germany-based MPC Capital.

This is demonstrated by its 170 megawatts of installed generating capacity and rapidly developing solar plants, he stated. The expansion under way in Jamaica is based on the country’s appealing market conditions; robust regulatory framework, Government’s support for the development, and a utility company that is willing to work with private power producers.

The Best Caribbean Beaches For 2019: The Ultimate List

One of my favorite destinations in the world is the Caribbean with its warm waters, sandy shores, and great cocktails. With so much destruction during Hurricane's Irma and Maria over a year ago, I am thrilled to report most of the best beaches and waterfront hotels are back in action with quite a few of them better than before. The perfect retreat for millions of tourists worldwide, the Caribbean not only offers up an amazing escape from cold winter climates but also creates memories to last for a lifetime. Some of my finest memories include floating in the bathtub-warm waters of Aruba, sailing in the British Virgin Islands, deep sea fishing in Nicaragua and countless others. I have become a bit of a beach aficionado having personally visited most of these beaches and am excited to present my favorites for 2019.

Bahamas Out Islands Seeing Strong Tourism Growth

The Bahamas is seeing very strong tourism growth in the Out Islands, according to new data from the country’s Ministry of Tourism.

The Out Islands, beyond the country’s traditional tourism hubs in Nassau and Grand Bahama, have seen a significant 20 percent increase in visitor arrivals between January and August of 2018, according to a statement.

United’s Big Caribbean Expansion for Spring Break 2019

United Airlines is planning a major expansion to the Caribbean for the spring season, Caribbean Journal has learned.

The carrier is adding more than 11,000 seats to destinations in the Caribbean, from U.S. cities including Cleveland, Denver, Newark, Indianapolis, Houston, Los Angeles, Chicago and San Francisco.

That includes routes to Caribbean destinations including Aruba, the Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Bonaire, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, St Kitts, Saint Lucia, the Bahamas and Antigua.
