WestJet is adding more Caribbean options from Toronto this coming winter season, according to a new statement from the carrier.

The company will be adding extra flights from Toronto to Caribbean destinations including Kingston, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, Nassau, Turks and Caicos, San Juan and St Maarten.

Grenada, home of the world’s first Underwater Sculpture Park and the Caribbean’s largest wreck dive, the Bianca C, will take the party beneath the surface with the second annual Pure Grenada Dive Fest.

The four-day event will take place from October 3-6 and is designed to showcase the destination’s rich and diverse eco-system as well as the bountiful and vibrant marine life that can be found off the islands’ shores.

“This is the only event of its kind on the island and we hope that dive enthusiasts and lovers of the sea will travel to Pure Grenada to enjoy the events we have scheduled,” said Patricia Maher, CEO of Grenada Tourism Authority.

Wyndham Reef Resort has named the award-winning, 20-year dive operator Ocean Frontiers as its new official dive operator.

The company is now offering a wide array of scuba and snorkel excursions to resort guests, specializing in signature scuba diving trips and regular two-tank boat dive trips to some of the island’s most spectacular sites, including wall, coral reef and open cave dives.

For snorkeling, there are seven trips available to explore underwater sites off East End, the North Sound and Kittiwake, just off Seven Mile Beach.

A clean-power company owned by billionaire Richard Branson’s Virgin Group has taken over a Caribbean solar farm that was damaged last year by Hurricane Maria.

Virgin’s BMR Energy unit, which develops, owns and operates clean-energy projects in the Caribbean and Latin America, plans to restore the 4-megawatt farm in St. Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and take over a power-purchase agreement, according to a statement Tuesday. It has been running at less than 45 percent of capacity since the September storm. Terms of the acquisition from NRG Energy Inc. weren’t disclosed.

Britain’s Foreign Office Minister for the Overseas Territories, Lord Tariq Ahmad of Wimbledon, visited the British Virgin Islands this week to discuss hurricane preparedness and see progress on recovery from last year’s devastation.

On his two-day visit, the minister visited a number of public sites affected by last year’s hurricanes with Premier Dr Orlando Smith. He saw how UK support is helping recovery efforts, and officially handed over the new purpose-built temporary Court House to the government, which will allow the Supreme Court and Magistrates’ Court to function fully again whilst a permanent building is constructed.
